No More Baggage Fees: Minimalism in Speed Training.

Having lived in 5 different countries in 5 years I like to think of myself as a minimalist because trying to pack your life into a suitcase every year… well you can imagine. Actually I always end up throwing stuff away or paying too much in luggage fees.

On my trip back to the UK for my recent holiday I read a book called goodbye things: minimalist living. It really resonated with me, Why do we need so much stuff? It takes up so much space physically and mentally.

Okay, why does this have anything to do with speed training?

Well you’re fed so much from social media and coaches about what you need to increase your speed. I’ll start with strength training, increased muscle mass, reactive strength, the rate at which you can produce force, mobility…. and I haven’t even spoke about actually running yet.

Lets make things much SIMPLER, rather than thinking about the things you need to be doing to get faster, how about we look at the things you shouldn’t be doing or things you can take away.

Most athletes are educated enough now that you understand the importance of sprinting, jumping and weight training but you don’t need to do it all at once. MINIMISE your stressors, not only will you get faster but you’ll feel mentally and physically fresher.

I listened to a podcast today with 2 very good speed coaches, one asked the other - what do you look for in sprinting? he replied “How well do they get their knee behind there hip? (hip extension)'‘.

Stop packing your suitcase with things you don’t need and getting charged for it!!

If this resonated with you and you’re feeling overwhelmed with training. Drop me a message here. Let’s get rid of the nonsense and make you lighter.

Rob.
